Gender, Sexual Orientation, and the Spiritual Journey

Transcript / transmission notes

Hello, beautiful soul, and welcome to Medititate with Mandy. I am your humble host, Mandy.

In a world where we’ve taken spiritual precepts and turned them into intellectual fodder, it is my mission to sit (typically, lie down) turn off the mental noise, and tap into silence and stillness…and you would be amazed at what you find up there.

Except you wouldn’t, because you’re meditating on your own, too. Right? 🤪

What We Call “Natural”

I was raised in an environment that really fostered the idea that going against nature was a big-time no.

Of course, that didn’t necessarily apply when it came to things like braces, nose jobs, or breast augmentations. However, things became quite spicy when it came to gender changes, sexual orientation, or anything else that seemed to go against a sanitized, puritanical, homogeneous American vision.

So, when it came time for me to sit down and tap into what I experience as the higher realms, as you can imagine, I became intrigued by the true nature of sexuality and gender expression across humanity.

Here’s the download, my sweet friend.

At this juncture in time, space, and reality, and I want to honor all of it, we come into the human experience through bodies that, more often than not, are biologically organized around male and female reproductive patterns.

That does not mean disregarding the experiences of intersex individuals or anyone whose biology does not fit neatly within that binary.

But for many, many humans, the body will broadly express as either male or female.

Survival, Polarity, and the Human Story

The slower and lower we go (toward the primitive, primal, and basic) the more we encounter the encoded patterns of the human experience.

In very basic terms, if humans are to continue existing on this Earth, reproduction must occur. Historically, that reproduction has depended upon male and female reproductive biology.

That is simply part of the material reality of our species at this juncture in time and space, and it was an even more dominant consideration thousands upon thousands of years ago.

The attraction between male and female polarities served reproduction, allowing humanity to continue.

In that sense, it could be experienced as sacred, natural, and gorgeous.

But as time went on, our capacity to perceive beyond simple binaries expanded.

We developed a gray area.

In language, we might call that nuance.

The Expansion of Nuance

Interestingly, everything we develop within the mind, spiritually speaking, also begins to affect how we experience material reality.

As we develop nuance in our ideas, our ways of thinking, our concepts, and our language, we also build nuance into ourselves.

We build nuance into the human experience.

So what happened as humanity moved beyond a purely survival-oriented existence in which male and female reproductive roles were paramount?

We developed art. Language. Philosophy. Entire civilizations. A wide breadth of spiritual traditions.

And the masculine and feminine polarities began to cross-pollinate.

The feminine archetype increasingly housed and expressed masculine energy, while the masculine archetype increasingly housed and expressed feminine energy.

We Already Contain Both

In today’s world, you would be hard-pressed to find human beings who naturally express exclusively one polarity.

If I could show you, from my spiritual and meditative vantage point, what I perceive as an entirely feminine archetype, you might laugh: because that archetype would barely be able to function in contemporary life.

She would not speak.

She would hardly move independently.

She would not travel, drive, initiate, or take action in the ways modern human life requires.

And yes, this may remind you of cultures or traditions that attempt to preserve rigid gendered structures because they understand them as more natural expressions of humanity.

But from my perspective, those structures no longer represent the fullness of what humanity has become.

The simple act of speaking and expressing can be understood as masculine energy.

Movement, driving, exercise, cooking, cleaning (even activities culturally associated with femininity) all require action.

That active energy is housed within the feminine archetype, too.

Conversely, listening, silence, receptivity, imagination, and openness can be understood as feminine qualities.

And those qualities are housed within the masculine archetype.

We are no longer creatures of pure masculinity or pure femininity.

And perhaps that is purposeful.

Perhaps this cross-pollination, this exchange, is part of our evolution.

Playing With the Energies Within Us

Children born into this age encounter countless expressions of masculine and feminine energy.

They learn to distinguish between them. They experiment with them. They discover them within themselves. And caregivers do not necessarily embody these energies in equal measure. Sometimes, for example, a child may look outward for what they experience as safe masculine energy and struggle to find it. They may then discover, develop, or embody that energy within themselves.

From the spiritual framework I’m describing here, that may become one influence among many in the development of gender expression or sexuality.

It is certainly not the only possibility.

There is, rather, a whole peacock’s tail of possibilities influencing how a human being comes to experience themselves.

Identity as Expression, Not Imprisonment

Does that mean we must attach ourselves rigidly to our gender identity or sexual orientation, whatever it may be at any particular moment?

No.

The higher invitation I perceive at this juncture in time, space, and reality—2026, here on Earth, from the highest meditative vantage point I can presently access—is this:

Let your sexual orientation and gender expression be vehicles for inspiration, expression, joy, truth, and wellness rather than prisons of identity.

Do not ask them to carry the entire purpose and meaning of your life.

Human beings change throughout a lifetime. Our bodies change. Our hormones change. Our environments change. Our health changes. Our psychology changes. Our spirituality changes.

And our relationship with ourselves may change, too.

You may surprise yourself. Your experience of sexuality may evolve. Your gender expression may evolve.

Or neither may change at all.

The invitation is not to demand fluidity.

The invitation is to allow freedom.

Nourish the Vessel

Rather than becoming consumed by defining yourself through your sexual orientation or gender identity, seek first to care for yourself.

Sleep well.

Meditate well.

Fill your mind with that which inspires you, opens your heart, and expands your capacity to accept—not only yourself, but the people around you.

Eat, breathe, sleep, and drink love of self.

Nourish and nurture this vessel without resentment, without hatred, and with as much love and grace as you can muster.

And from that place, however you are genuinely inspired to express your gender or experience your sexuality can become part of your soul’s journey—right here, on your path, at this time.

Love What Is

You are not meant to be confined by a definition.

There is no single aspect of yourself that you must clutch so tightly that it becomes the entirety of who you are.

Instead:

Love what is.

Until we meet again, my sweet friend, I am sending you all of the love that I’ve got.

It’s always more, and it’s never less: because you are so very worthy of it.
