The Medicine You Are: Purpose Through Play & Service

This contemplative practice invites you to explore the medicine you naturally bring to life and ask how you genuinely want to be of use in this chapter of your journey. If questions of purpose, service, calling, or contribution have started to feel rigid or overly serious, this practice helps you approach them through embodiment, curiosity, and play instead. Listen for the offering that makes your heart sing, let it be temporary if it needs to be, and discover the possibility that you may already be living your medicine.

Hello, beautiful soul, and welcome to Meditate with Mandy. I’m Mandy, and I’m so honored to be sharing a moment of presence with you.

Wherever you are in time and space, let’s slow it way, way down and meet right here. Settle into your space and get comfy and cozy, putting your muscles and your bones and your body’s weight at ease, and letting yourself grow a little heavy and a little soft and very, very gentle.

When you’re ready, and not a moment before, flutter those beautiful eyelids closed and allow yourself a deep, beautiful breath in through your nose, and let it go through your mouth easy. Again, life-filled breath in through your nose. Release it through your mouth. Again in through your nose. Let it go through your mouth. And now a little bit slower, a little bit softer, in through your nose. Hold at the top, and slowly out through your mouth.

Perfect.

Now breathe easy, in and out through your nose, and land here in the safety of this moment, you and I, by feeling your body from the inside out.

So I invite you to not move your muscles or move your limbs if you’ve got them. Don’t change your breathing or edit or adjust anything. But instead, witness your body as if you were making sure that it’s there.

Feel your chest rise and fall by gently bringing your awareness to the center of your chest. Don’t change it. Just check in with it.

Hello, chest.

Bring your awareness to your abdomen, near your navel, and perhaps watch your stomach rise and fall, affected by your diaphragm. And just check in with it.

Hello, stomach.

If you have hands, check in with those hands. Don’t move them or twitch them, flex them or loosen them. Just animate them with your awareness.

How would you know they were still there if you didn’t look and you didn’t move?

Check in on your face, that beautiful face of yours.

I know it might be tricky to hold back a smile when you think of your own magnificence.

But let your face remain relaxed.

All right, you can smile.

But when you’re done, check in with your face.

Hello, face.

How would you know it was there if you couldn’t touch it, you couldn’t move it, and you couldn’t see it?

Beautiful, my sweet friend. Beautiful.

Breathe easy.

Today, I invite you to contemplate this notion:

We all want to be useful, of use, which in an unexpected way means that we want to be used.

Never abused, my sweet love.

Let’s not conflate those concepts.

But used in the way that makes our heart sing.

So, my sweet friend, today I invite you to contemplate:

How do you want to be used by the world?

What medicine do you want to be known as?

It can be for any reason. There is no right or wrong answer. There is no moralistically superior answer.

And as we are always on the expansion path, what you want to be used for today, you may not want to be used for tomorrow. Some years of experiencing life with one sort of offering may show you that you wish to offer something different in the next stage of your life.

No rules, no limits, my love.

You are a galaxy of possibilities.

So allow yourself to play with this.

What medicine am I?

How do I feel useful?

What invigorates, or heals, or inspires me to be?

Is this medicine for people, or is it for plants, for the Earth, for the animals, for the stars, for the gods?

Who would you serve?

And if you said yourself, now I’m smiling.

There’s great beauty in simply being of use to you.

When a medicine bubbles up inside of you, my sweet friend, capture it in a word just for this moment.

My word of today is laughter.

If I can make a soul giggle, then I have been well of use for my purpose.

Once you’ve got it, rest your awareness on this energy and let yourself be creative here. Maybe you’ll see yourself living this use, or maybe you’ll feel the energy in its purest state, bubbling in the center of your chest.

Or maybe you’ll remember a time that someone else gave this medicine to you, and simply resting your awareness on that memory is enough.

This will be the focal point of today’s meditation, so breathe easy.

Let go of any urge for perfection.

The spell happens in the ease, in the play.

And let’s meditate on the medicine that you are, for there is an excellent chance that you’re already living this.

I’ll be right here with you, doing the very same, and I’ll call us back together when it’s time.

Here we go.

[Silent interlude]

Beautiful, my sweet friend. Beautiful.

Bring yourself back into the body, nice and easy, with a smooth inhale in through your nose and a sigh out through your mouth.

Breathe easy, your own pace, your own rhythm.

And if you were really getting into it there and feeling all the vibes, feeling water move or fire move or Earth inside of you or air shifting, or if you were just totally in another world, it’s all perfect.

Take with you anything that touched you.

And if you are left curious, and if today’s contemplation stirred you to perhaps ask more questions, that’s beautiful.

There’s no need to have an answer.

There’s no need for an absolute.

Simply asking the question brings the clarity.

When you’re ready, my darling friend, flutter those beautiful eyelids open. And if you have eyes to see, say:

Hello, world.

In the same way you felt into your body, today you can feel into anything that you witness in the external world.

And as we’ve been exploring recently here in this space, you can check in with your body as your compass to see what soothes you, what expands you, what awakens you.

You are an infinite force existing in a finite, temporary piece of this planet called Earth.

Enjoy every moment of it.

Until we meet again, I am sending you all of the love that I’ve got.

It is always more.

It is never less.

For you, dear one, you are so very worthy.
